Quote of the Day: Fannie Farmer

"I certainly feel that the time is not far distant when a knowledge of the principles of diet will be an essential part of one's education. Then mankind will eat to live, be able to do better mental and physical work and disease will be less frequent."

Know About Your Skin and Possible Skin Conditions

from: Cosmetics Center Skin Conditions Guide

Our skin is a very important part of our body. Many people aren't aware that it is considered the largest organ in our body. It also has a very important role. Its role is in protecting our body from the outside world; in the same way that plastic wrap protects food for us. If the plastic wrap on food becomes ripped, it can no longer protect the food and keep it soft and moist.

Our skin works the same way for us, protecting us as long as it is healthy. The health of our skin and conditions of our skin determine how much protection it gives us. When we spend too much time out in the sun, we damage our skin and conditions such as sunburn arise. Sunburn causes our outer layer of skin to become red and peel. When our skin begins to peel, we are no longer getting the maximum protection we should from our skin and conditions such as skin cancer are possible.

We all have learned about our skin in school and how important it is to our body, but we still tend to take it for granted. As we grow older, we constantly are exposed to things that can cause harm to our skin. Many factory workers come in contact with chemicals every day at work. At the end of the day, their skin may be red and dry. Dry skin is a very common skin condition. In fact, although many people may feel they have normal skin, very feel people have normal skin.

Most skin is oily, dry or a combination type of skin. Teenagers often have problem skin and conditions such as pimples and acne develop, costly them a lot of discomfort and embarrassment. Pimples and acne usually go away on their own, but sometimes they are serious skin conditions that require medical attention from a dermatologist.
